Technical & Environmental Information

Composition and Manufacture

ecotile is injection moulded using either virgin, recycled or a combination of both virgin and recycled material. All recycled material is strictly controlled and graded, the quality of recycled material used in the manufacture of ecotile has a lower filler content than virgin material used by our competitors and is therefore more durable, less likely to mark or scuff and is guaranteed not to warp or deform. Our unique manufacturing method not only guarantees a better quality of floor tile but also helps protect the environment.

Standards and Accreditation

Meets & exceeds requirements of BS EN 685:1996 (Resilient and laminate floor coverings) and BS EN 649:1997 (Resilient Floor coverings. Homogeneous and heterogeneous pvc floor coverings), BBA 96/3229/3

Life Cycle Cost

ecotile is a loose laid system so in the event of damage or excessive wear individual tiles can be lifted and replaced significantly extending the life of the floor and reducing the life cycle cost.

Sustainability

ecotile is 100% recyclable, at the end of its service life the tiles can be granulated and re-used to manufacture a new floor. Most floor coverings only have a limited life span due to wear or the building occupier’s wishes to refurbish or alter the building’s appearance. Most waste floor coverings will end up in landfill due to the fact that once it has been adhered to the floor it cannot be re-used. Not only can ecotile be recycled but there is a strong market for pre-owned tiles

Anticipated Service Life

25 years +

Recycled content

Black –         100%

Light Grey & Dark Grey – 75% to 100% *

Colours –         50% to 100% *

Environmental Impact

During 2007 we converted 20,000 tons of waste plastics including post consumer and post industrial waste.

VOC Content

Trace elements of volatile’s from modifiers and non PVC based additives. Significantly lower VOC levels when compared to resin based flooring systems or the levels encountered when using adhesives to stick down conventional floor coverings.

Sound Absorption

Noise reduction of up to 46db can be achieved

Guarantees

All the products in the ecotile range are guaranteed to remain free from manufacturing defects for 10 years from the date of installation.

ecotile ESD Electrical Characteristics

ecotile ESD fulfils the recommendations detailed in BS EN 61340 5-1:2001 and IEC 61340 for floors used for primary grounding within areas prone to electro-static discharge.

Resistance to ground of the floor / footwearcombination:

(Rg) >7.5 x 10(5) and < 3.5 x 10(7) ohm

Anti-static Performance:

3.0 x 10(5) < Rs < 3.4 x 10(5)

Conductive Performance:

3.6 x 10(5) < Rg <9.5 x 10(5)

Resistance to Hot Objects / Solder:

Good

Chemical / Solvent Resistance:

Good

* A conductive strip is required to ground the tiles, one earth point required per 30m² of floor area to be covered or one earth point per section of tiles installed (whichever is the lower).

HSE UK Slip Resistance Group Guidelines and Recommendations

The HSE do not recommend a specific  µ value (mu) or PTV value for flooring due to the fact that there are so many external factors that will influence the anti-slip performance of the floor. These include the type of footwear, level of traffic, ease of cleaning etc. However the general guidelines are, for an unencumbered, reasonably active pedestrian aged between 18 and 60 a PTV value of 36 or above when measured in dry conditions (represents an acceptably low risk of slipping when walking in a straight line on a level surface).

PTV = Pendulum Test Value / Slip Resistance Value
