New Flooring Concept for Schools and Colleges

No glue, no screed, no downtime and no matter what colour you want you can be assured it is totally Green!

For many years the flooring industry has depended on glue, screed and qualified installers and been restricted by issues such as access time on site, cure times etc. The Versatile Flooring Company have launched a new flooring product that eliminates many of these additional costs and time consuming problems with the launch of their brand new and patented interlocking floor tile with a hidden joint.

The new ecotile 6HJT tile is 450mm x 450mm and 6.5 mm thick. The tiles connect using both an interlocking joint and a push fit seam that makes the tile almost completely waterproof. The connection is so tight and secure that loads as heavy as forklift trucks, cars and pallet trucks can be used on the new floor without the tile needing to be adhered to the substrate. The tile is simplicity itself to install and Sit-On skirting or beading can be used to finish the edges tidily.

James Gedye, Managing Director of The Versatile Flooring Co. observes “Since we launched the ecotile range back in 1996 we have sold and installed over 3 million square metres of the original open joint tile system into factories, schools, shops, and garages to name but a few applications. The most common objection to the loose lay interlocking floor tile concept has been the aesthetics of being able to see the connection between the tiles and so we have invested heavily in designing and manufacturing an exciting new product. Proudly manufactured in the UK, the first ecotile 6HJT was produced in December 2008 and prior to the official launch we have undertaken extensive trials and tests in various applications including school classrooms, factories, retail outlets and offices. The new tile has proven extremely popular, tough and practical delivering all the advantages of traditional vinyl, rubber or resin alternatives but with none of the disadvantages. The results have been excellent and we are now in a position to launch the new hidden joint range 100% confident that the tile will deliver exactly what the customer wants and needs, namely simplicity, minimal disruption and excellent value for money”.

The new ecotile 6HJT is a smart and tough floor covering designed with all the advantages our original 7 and 10mm thick interlocking tiles with one crucial difference. The ecotile 6HJT tile has the same dovetail joint as the original tile but the top section of the tile has a seam joint with a slight bevel to ease cleaning and maintenance. The tile is the ultimate “green” flooring not only eliminating the need for glue and screed thus significantly reducing energy consumption and carbon miles involved in manufacturing and distribution but also because the tiles are manufactured from recycled pre and post consumer plastics sourced from regulated recycling centres. Every off cut is returned to the factory to be re-ground and re-processed and when the floor has reached the end of its useable life the tiles we will but back the floor and re-process the tiles into the next generation of interlocking floor tiles.
